International Kajukenbo Association

Master a unique self-defense system that unites the world’s fighting arts — built on personal growth, respect, and excellence.

The Art

What Is Kajukenbo?

Kajukenbo is a hybrid martial art forged in 1947 at the Palama Settlement on O‘ahu, Hawaii. Its name is built from the very arts it combines — a complete system for real-world self-defense.

KA
Karate

Hard, linear striking — the foundation of powerful hands and feet.

JU
Judo & Jujitsu

Throws, joint locks, and ground control for close-quarters defense.

KEN
Kenpo

Chinese & Hawaiian kenpo — rapid, flowing combinations.

BO
Boxing

Western & Chinese boxing — footwork, timing, and hand speed.

Born in Hawaii, 1947. Created by the Black Belt Society — a group of five martial artists led by Sijo Adriano Emperado — Kajukenbo was designed to be practical, adaptable, and effective on the street. Today it is practiced across the globe, and the I.K.A. carries that lineage forward.
